More than 400 people respond to online questionnaire

Church Brewing: where the customers are the congregation and the choir | SaltWirePeople in Newfoundland and Labrador have a wide range of views about pay equity and pay transparency, according to the provincial government’s public consultation data obtained by SaltWire through an access to information request.

In total, 439 people responded to the questionnaire. Most respondents identified as a member of the general public, followed by private sector employees , public sector employees , private sector employers , and public sector employers . Due to limited space, SaltWire is highlighting a sample of the feedback. These responses are presented as written, unedited:

“Government should not require posting salaries in job advertisements. Companies want workers who are excited about the job, not just the paycheck. Being coy about salary is one way they test candidates interest in the position as people who apply without knowing the compensation tend to be really passionate about the work.”

“This Act is incomplete, inequitable and unacceptable unless it pertains to all workers in the province throughout the Act. No worker should be left out of any protection this Act provides, both for Pay Equity and Pay Transparency.”
