But back when Calgary Flames defeneceman Dennis Gilbert and Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly first met, it actually made a lot of sense.“I love ‘Little Denny,’“ Kelly said earlier this summer. “He’s a feisty guy, just like his dad. Same with his little brother. That’s a family I grew up with and, obviously, Denny being where he is right now is pretty incredible to see with how far he’s come and how hard he’s worked.Little Denny? There aren’t many people calling Gilbert that today.
“My dad was the head coach and when Chad got there he was a sophomore, a rising junior, and I was in eighth grade and hadn’t really grown yet,” Gilbert said. “I was a lot smaller. I was like 5-foot-3 and weighed a buck-fifty and then I grew a foot in high school.Today, Kelly is the star quarterback of the reigning Grey Cup champion Argos and the front-runner to be the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player.
