The Indian men’s singles shuttler is slowly finding his feet again after recovering from surgery for a deviated septum after the World Championships last August.
Surgery was needed because the deviated septum had nearly blocked Lakshya’s right nasal passage, with the air intake around 20% of normal.
The procedure involved shaving off a portion of the bone that was impeding air intake and setting right the shape of the nose. In a recent interview with the Badminton World Federation , world No. 19 Lakshya opened up on his struggles after the surgery. “Recovery was expected to take three months but instead, it took me over eight months to get back on track,” said the 21-year-old Lakshya.“The immunity was down for quite some time and I had to take medication to deal with it.’’“Whenever I was training, I was getting injured or sick when I trained,” said Lakshya.
“Then I had to take a step back for a bit, because for the first two months, I didn’t have any idea that it could be this serious.“I’ve felt better over the last two or three months.Lakhsya is out to regain the form that saw him capture the Birmingham Commonwealth Games singles gold and Indian Open title last year at the Korean Open from July 18-23 in Yeosu.
