Police say cameras were installed during a March break-in.
A pair of surveillance cameras were recently found surreptitiously installed at an Abbotsford pig farm, police say. The cameras were discovered in late March recording inside and outside of a barn at the family owned farm, in the 33100-block of Harris Road, said Judy Bird, an Abbotsford police spokeswoman.
In 2017, six people were fired from a B.C. chicken-catching company after animal-welfare group Mercy for Animals released hidden-camera footage showing chickens being mistreated. Also that year, several people were jailed or fined after hidden-camera footage caught cows being mistreating at a B.C. dairy farm. But, in both cases, a volunteer for that group had taken a job in order to obtain their footage.
Jack DeWit, the president of the B.C. Pork Producers Association, called the break-in “very inappropriate.DeWit confirmed the break-in happened at Excelsior Hog Farm. A member of the family who owns that farm sits on the association’s board. Neither he nor members of his family responded to requests for comment.“We don’t know the extent of what they’ve got or what they did,” DeWit said. “We’re not even positive who it is.
