A red flag brought qualifying for the Brazil Grand Prix to a screeching halt on Saturday morning with wild storms running ravage. Formula One championship leader Max Verstappen required just one lap to put his Red Bull on pole for the Brazilian Grand Prix, but behind him, there was drama for McLaren’s Australian rookie Oscar Piastri.

With the Q3 session forecast to be hit by a huge storm, Verstappen quickly got in his decisive run — and it was good enough to earn him a 31st pole position as the bad weather hit with a vengeance. “We did not know when the weather would hit but this is insane,” Verstappen said of the rain. “Our laps felt terrible, but I don’t know, I think the wind started to change and started to be very strong and we lost a lot of lap time because of it.
