Former premier Kenney joins law firm, will not lobby Alberta government

Kenney’s resignation as MLA in late 2022 capped 25 years experience in elected government.

He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997 as a 29-year-old member of the Opposition Reform Party. From 2008 to 2015, he was minister for three portfolios and then left federal politics to become leader of the Progressive Conservatives in March 2017. In October 2017, Kenney was elected leader of the newly-formed UCP.After Kenney’s resignation, Danielle Smith won the UCP leadership vote on the sixth ballot and was sworn in as premier in October 2022.
