Crucial Dimensions managing director Geoff Flemming began horse riding as a kid. He’s got his own sons into it and now plans holidays around the pastime.
eoff Flemming is managing director of workplace training organisation Crucial Dimensions. He lives in Neerim Junction, Victoria. When I was about 10 years old we used to stay at my uncle’s farm near Maitland in NSW during Christmas and school holidays, and he would put my brother and me on a horse and give it a smack on the bum. If we fell off, he would always say he’d be really embarrassed if the neighbours saw that happen.I find it very peaceful and relaxing, as well as exhilarating.
We live in beautiful Neerim Junction near Warragul in regional Victoria. We have six hectares and are building a house. We also have sheep and cattle. My two biggest adventures in Mongolia. The first was riding through the Altai Mountains for about 12 days with my three sons, Matthew, Thomas and Tim. Often the temperature was minus 10 degrees at night. The ride ended at the Altai Eagle Festival, which was just amazing.
Connecting with the horse. They are amazing creatures, and I find being around them makes me very serene. I remember a 10-day ride years ago on a borrowed Quarter Horse named McQuillan. The first day or so, he was very feisty, but after about a week, he would stand next to me and rest his head on my shoulder. For me, it’s very fulfilling.I find transportation the most nerve-wracking part.
