Soliman said the lack of candour from the agencies was especially frustrating given he had gone through strict security clearances and taken precautions. He said parties attending the meetings had to leave cellphones outside the room and in some cases couldn’t even take notes.
He said national security representatives didn’t give the party much information to work with and shrugged when the party brought information forward. The task force was part of a larger set of measures the Liberals introduced aimed at combating foreign interference. A followup review of that system done by Morris Rosenberg, a former deputy minister and also former head of the Trudeau foundation, said that parties found the process useful.
“I certainly don’t recall saying that,” he said. “I certainly would not have said that after the last call that we had.”
