"We are the only company that operates year round in Australia, and out of Sydney Harbour," says P&O Australian president Marguerite Fitzgerald.
More than a million Australians will board a ship this year, and half of those will be on P&O vessels. The cruise industry injects more than $5 billion into the national economy, more than $3 billion of that to NSW. "When they're travelling around the coast, that supply chain for ships is coming from local communities up and down the coastline, so it's a big economic boom right around the country," says Tourism and Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond. And post-COVID, cruising is set to boom.
