Redblacks GM Shawn Burke offered nothing but kind words for outgoing head coach Paul LaPolice Monday, but felt a change was necessary.

“He’s an outstanding person, a good football coach,” Burke said. “We were just privileged to work with him and he handled the news with the class and dignity you would expect. I know he will bounce back in this league.”LaPolice was brought in to replace original Redblacks coach Rick Campbell in December 2019, by former general manager Marcel Desjardins.

I know we have the right guy now to get us that hole. I would have expected that we would have made a little bit better strides this year. It hasn’t worked out.
“We spend to within dollars of the cap, we spend to within dollars of the non-player cap. Our ownership is as committed to winning as anybody could believe. They are competitive individuals. The momentum of winning can lead to more wins and the momentum of losing can go the opposite way.”
