Focus of WC Community Safety budget to assist in creating safer communities, says MEC

The budget was tabled in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament by Premier Alan Winde last week.

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape provincial department of police oversight and community safety says its R763.4 million budget shows courage in the face of fiscal uncertainty.Western Cape MEC for police oversight and community safety, Reagen Allen:"Our primary focus of the budget is to ensure the Western Cape safety plan continues to be placed front and centre in everything that we do, as this will further assist in creating safer communities across the province.

Allen said the department had also allocated R23.6 million to its Chrysalis Programme to empower young people in the province, while R61.1 million will go to the Western Cape Liquor Authority for the regulation of liquor prices throughout the province. "It is critical that we work together to combat crime, as it will take consistent bravery from all of us to overcome crime. As the Western Cape government, we are determined to create communities where residents can live without fear and in dignity. Let us all work together to beat it."
