Mandatory Credit: Bob Frid-USA TODAY SportsFrank Seravalli reported Monday morning that the Florida Panthers have placed Swedish forward Patric Hornqvist on long-term injury reserve with an upper-body injury. Hornqvist was injured in Saturday’s 5-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken. He will miss 24 days or a minimum of 10 games.
So hold those tickets just yet on a potential trade for cap compliance once Anthony Duclair is healthy and ready to return.Hornqvist is in his third full season with the Panthers since joining the club in the 2020-21 season. The Panthers dealt defenseman Mike Matheson and forward Colton Sceviour to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Hornqvist. Last season, he registered 28 points in 65 games. This year, he has just three points in 22 games while averaging a career-low in ice time at 9:16.
The 35-year-old recently played his 900th career NHL game. An astonishing feat for a player who was originally selected in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators. Through 901 games with the Predators, Penguins and Panthers, Hornqvist has recorded 264 goals, 279 assists and 543 points. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups during his time with the Penguins in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
. Tierney, 28, was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He has made stops in San Jose, and Ottawa throughout his career. In 561 NHL games, he has registered 226 points. This season he has spent time in the AHL with the Checkers and has recorded 16 points in 19 games.
