PETALING JAYA: Three schools in Johor remain closed despite the new school term having started on Sunday (Mar 19), says the Deputy Education Minister.

Lim Hui Ying said that the closed schools include SK Seri Mendapat, SK Tanjung Semberong, and SK Seri Nasib Baik in Batu Pahat.

"SK Seri Mendapat and SK Tanjung Semberong are still in the clean-up process and should be finished by this week. The flooding at SK Sri Nasib Baik has yet to receed, so it is still too dangerous for students to return," she said. A total of 22 SK Seri Nasib Baik students are affected along with 34 from SK Tanjung Semberong and 116 from SK Seri Mendapat.

"While it is unfortunate, we will prioritise the safety of the students first by ensuring the school is clean and clear of floodwaters before opening it again," she said during a press conference at SJK PJS1 in Petaling Jaya on Monday . She added that they would also make sure the affected schools had all the necessary working facilities and equipment before reopening them.
