Floods: Batu Pahat still badly hit, with 35,099 evacuees at relief centres

JOHOR BARU: There are just over 45,000 flood evacuees seeking shelter at 186 temporary relief centres in Johor as of 8am Thursday (March 9), with Batu Pahat still the worst-hit district.

The state disaster management committee said Batu Pahat accounted for more than 75% of 35,099 or the total 45,048 evacuees from seven districts.

“This is followed by Muar , Tangkak , Segamat , Mersing , Kota Tinggi and Kluang ,” it said in a statement. It added that the level of rivers in Segamat, Muar and Batu Pahat were showing signs of dropping below danger level except for one. “The water level of Sungai Simpang Kiri, which is at Sri Medan in Batu Pahat, is currently at 2.65m, above the danger level of 2.30m," it said.
