About 75,000 megalitres of water is still expected to roll through the already inundated western NSW town of Menindee - as the SES warns flood operations will continue for months.
The State Emergency Service has warned it expects to respond to floods around the western New South Wales community of Menindee for months.
“That would fill Sydney Harbour in about five days currently coming through the community of Menindee along the Darling River so an enormous amount of water,” he said on Monday.About 20 SES volunteers are working at Menindee to help residents stay safe. Picture: Facebook “We are hoping that perhaps that 10.7 metres may not be reached we are certainly planning for that as an organisation there is a lot of planning at the moment, sandbagging is continuing on vulnerable properties but we’re certainly thankful that we’ve seen a lull in the flood water.”
Mr Rankin said the peak flood levels were expected to remain for about two weeks before moving on to neighbouring towns including Wilcannia, Tilpa and downstream at Pooncarie and Burtundy.
