MILLWRIGHT REGIONAL COUNCIL — The first cohort of the five-week Introduction to Millwrighting Program, a joint initiative by the Millwright Regional Council - Canada and Build a Dream, graduated on March 8, International Women’s Day.The program, launched Feb. 5 at the Darlington Energy Complex, was a response to the need for skilled professional millwrights, with a particular focus on recruiting women and other underrepresented groups, indicates a release.
The initiative aimed to break down barriers and provide essential skills training and comprehensive support, empowering women to thrive in traditionally male-dominated industries. The collaboration included Durham College, Ontario Power Generation and UBC Millwright Local 2309 Toronto. It connected participants with industry experts and reaffirmed the commitment of all partners to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the millwright profession.
“As a proud participant of the Introduction to Millwrighting Program, I’ve not only acquired essential skills but also redefined what’s possible for women in the trades. The program has empowered me to step confidently into a male-dominated field and make my mark.

Lanterra to Install First Permanent Sculpture in Canada at Notting HillLanterra will create its first permanent sculpture in Canada as part of a new public art project to be installed at Lanterra’s community development The sculpture is slated for installation in early 2026 stated a release. Notting Hill is located at 4000 Eglinton Ave W. in Toronto’s west end. Tonkin Liu is led by partners Anna Liu and Mike Tonkin. Lanterra has also partnered with OCAD University and the Etobicoke School of the Arts to fund a mentorship program led by Liu and Tonkin. Students will work with Liu as the Notting Hill art project proceeds through the research and design phase, the fabrication phase and the installation phase. Tonkin Liu was awarded the commission after a selection process undertaken by an advisory committee of local artists along with Lanterra chairman Mark Mandelbaum and Richan Art principal Emma Richan. a sculpture in Burnley, which was selected as one of 21 landmarks that define Britain in the 21st century.
