First Gen Corp has entered into a deal to supply over 25MW of baseload geothermal power to Alliance Global Group's facilities in Metro Manila, Iloilo, Davao, and Laguna, supporting AGI's 2035 carbon neutrality target.

In a significant move toward sustainable energy adoption, the Lopez-led First Gen Corp has officially secured a strategic agreement to provide more than 25 megawatts of geothermal power to the various key properties and facilities owned by Alliance Global Group, Inc., commonly known as AGI.

This partnership represents a critical step in the energy transition for one of the Philippines' most prominent conglomerates. The clean energy supply will be sourced directly from First Gen's established geothermal power plants located in the provinces of Albay and Sorsogon, ensuring a steady flow of renewable electricity to a wide array of urban and industrial hubs. The scope of the agreement is expansive, covering several high-profile developments under the Megaworld Corp umbrella.

This includes township developments in Taguig City, the iconic Venice Grand Canal Mall situated in McKinley Hill, and the rapidly growing ArcoVia City in Pasig City. Beyond the capital region, the energy supply will extend to the Richmonde Hotel in Iloilo City and the Davao Finance Center in Davao City.

Furthermore, the industrial requirements of Emperador Distillers, Inc., specifically its manufacturing plants in Santa Rosa and Biñan, Laguna, will also be supported by this geothermal energy initiative. For Alliance Global Group, this transition is not merely a corporate formality but a central pillar of its long-term environmental strategy.

Founded by the visionary businessman Andrew L. Tan, AGI manages a diverse and sprawling portfolio that spans real estate development, tourism, entertainment, gaming, as well as food and beverage and quick-service restaurants both within the Philippines and in international markets. Given the scale of these operations, electricity consumption constitutes a substantial portion of the group's overall carbon emissions.

Arnulfo C. Batac, the Head of Sustainability at Megaworld, has emphasized that the ability to integrate more renewable energy into their operations without sacrificing efficiency or the quality of service delivery is paramount. By switching to geothermal power, the conglomerate aims to significantly reduce its carbon footprint, bringing the organization closer to its ambitious goal of achieving total carbon net zero status by the year 2035.

This commitment highlights a growing trend among Filipino corporations to align their business growth with ecological stewardship, recognizing that long-term profitability is inextricably linked to environmental health. The choice of geothermal energy over other renewable sources is a strategic decision based on reliability and stability. As Carlo L. Vega, the Chief Customer Engagement Officer of First Gen, pointed out, geothermal energy is unique among renewable sources because it can provide baseload capacity.

Unlike solar or wind energy, which are intermittent and depend on weather conditions, geothermal power provides a constant and uninterrupted supply of electricity. This makes it an ideal choice for critical infrastructure such as hotels, malls, and industrial plants that require twenty-four-seven power to maintain operational continuity. From a business perspective, this shift is described as a means of managing risk and optimizing costs in an era of volatile global fuel prices.

By locking in renewable energy sources, AGI can protect itself from the fluctuations of the traditional energy market while contributing positively to the planet's health. First Gen Corp continues to solidify its position as a leader in the renewable energy sector in the Philippines. With a total capacity exceeding 1,700 megawatts sourced from a diversified mix of hydro, geothermal, solar, and wind facilities across the country, the company is well-equipped to handle the energy demands of large-scale corporate partners.

The partnership with AGI serves as a blueprint for how large conglomerates can pivot away from fossil fuels by leveraging existing renewable infrastructure. The transition to green energy is becoming increasingly urgent as the Philippines faces the dual challenges of rising energy demand and vulnerability to climate change. By scaling up the use of geothermal energy, companies are not only meeting their internal sustainability targets but are also contributing to the national goal of energy security and decarbonization.

Looking forward, the integration of geothermal power into the operations of Megaworld townships and Emperador Distillers is expected to set a benchmark for other industries in the region. The move signals to the market that sustainability is no longer an optional add-on but a core business requirement.

As AGI continues to expand its footprint in the tourism and real estate sectors, the commitment to carbon neutrality by 2035 will likely drive further innovations in green building design and sustainable operational practices. This collaboration between First Gen and Alliance Global Group illustrates the synergy between energy providers and corporate consumers in creating a more sustainable future for the Philippine economy, ensuring that economic progress does not come at the cost of the environment
