DEATH penalty by firing squad has been proposed at the House of Representatives for public officials -- from the President to the lowest barangay official -- convicted with finality of corruption-related criminal charges.This was pushed by Zamboanga Representative Khymer Olaso through House Bill 11211 , also known as the “ Death Penalty for Corruption Act.

The measure, however, includes safeguards to ensure that due process and constitutional protections are upheld, thus it stressed that convictions must be affirmed by the Supreme Court, undergo an automatic review process, and the accused is allowed to exhaust all available legal remedies..
