Fine Gael has vowed to create a stand-alone offence criminalising attacks on retail workers if re-elected to Government.

The Irish Mirror understands that Fine Gael is developing a "significant number of supports for small and medium businesses to help address their cost base." "One of the biggest issues have raised with us is the rise of theft in-store but also the rise of anti-social behaviour," he said."If re-elected, Fine Gael will take the necessary measures to protect retailers by creating a stand-alone criminal offence for attacking a retail worker.

"We will also establish a new grant scheme to support retailers to install anti-theft measures so they can protect their shops.
