When CASARA searcher Cliff Gavel spotted the lost 4-yr-old little boy named Justin 7 hours into a frantic 2003 search in Yarmouth Co., it was an emotional moment for him. So much so that in recent years Gavel set out to find Justin again.
YARMOUTH, NS – Yarmouth County resident Cliff Gavel is still moved to tears remembering the day 19 years ago when – circling the sky in a helicopter – he spotted a lost four-year-old boy named Justin.In recent years he launched a second search for him.Last year when Gavel, 79, found the ‘little boy’ – who is now 23 – again, more tears were shed.
Justin Hari sits on his father Joe’s lap, with the neighbour’s dog Oakie behind him, when everyone was brought together to celebrate the rescue of the little boy who went missing in June 2003. CONTRIBUTED“We hollered and hollered," says Joe Hari."Behind the house was a four-wheeler path that went to the ball field. I walked a ways and didn’t see his bike.”
“I could only see the footprints for so far because the path got grassy. I ran out of footprints,” says Joe.Even when the boy’s bike was found it yielded no directional clues. “The next leg when we were going down, I looked over and I saw the dog. I couldn’t see the boy,” says Gavel. Celebrating the little boy’s safe return home after he went missing in June 2003. Even Oakie the dog was considered a hero. CONTRIBUTED
