A 14-year-old Filipino girl working in Dubai with her parents achieved her dream of performing at Carnegie Hall, one of the world's most prestigious concert venues.
A 14-year-old daughter of a Filipino couple working in Dubai performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall, one of the world’s most prestigious concert venues, before a packed, awed audience. Jaira Marie Yzabel Carranza, a junior high school student with a string of awards for singing, said she had the best time of her life singing at Carnegie Hall. Carranza has also done acting stints and can play the violin and piano, among other musical instruments.
She won first place in both Broadway and Traditional categories in this year’s American Protégé, the largest international music competition in the United States, which was also held in New York. She performed in a recital of American Protégé winners at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on December 21. Still in disbelief, Carranza said she was “blessed with the opportunity to not only set foot at the Carnegie Hall, but to perform.” “It was a moment I’ll never forget, and it has inspired me to keep working hard and chasing my dreams. And I hope that other aspiring young people like me will also get the opportunity to perform here.
