A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey reveals a drop in Filipino optimism for 2025, with 90% expressing hope compared to 96% in 2023.
Ninety percent of adult Filipinos are looking forward to 2025 with hope, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey taken from December 12 to 18, 2024. However, this marks a decline from the 96% who expressed hope for the New Year in 2023.The current figure is the lowest since 2009 when 89% of Filipinos reported feeling hopeful about the year ahead, SWS noted.
Meanwhile, 10% of respondents said they would enter 2025 with fear, a seven-point increase from the 3% recorded in 2023.This is also the highest level of fear recorded since 2009 when 11% of Filipinos reported feeling apprehensive about the coming year.The survey revealed regional variations in the level of hopefulness. In Balance Luzon, 92% were hopeful about the coming year, while 91% in Metro Manila were hopeful. In Mindanao, it was 89%, while in the Visayas it was 87%.Despite these figures, the SWS highlighted a decline in hopefulness across all regions compared to 2023. Last year, 97% of respondents in both Balance Luzon and Metro Manila were hopeful, followed by 96% in Mindanao and 93% in the Visayas.The non-commissioned survey involved face-to-face interviews with 2,160 adults nationwide: 1,080 from Balance Luzon (Luzon outside Metro Manila) and 360 each from Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.The survey had a sampling error margin of ±2% for national results, ±3% for Balance Luzon, and ±5% for Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
