AN OVERSEAS Filipino Worker ( OFW ) was involved in the death of a Kuwaiti child in her employer’s household, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait said Friday, December 27, 2024. In a statement, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait said it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the tragic incident involving a Filipina worker. It extended condolences and prayers to the bereaved family and vowed cooperation with Kuwaiti authorities investigating the incident.

It also assured the provision of assistance to the detained Filipino domestic worker, within the framework of Kuwaiti law and in keeping with the Embassy’s mandate.“This isolated incident does not reflect the character of Filipinos and the Filipino community in Kuwait, who are recognized for their hard work, reliability, and positive contribution to society,” it said. In May 2023, the Kuwaiti government imposed a visa ban on Filipino nationals following the killing of OFW Jullebee Ranara whose body was found in a desert. Ranara’s teen killer was convicted of murder. The ban was lifted in June 2024 after the Philippines and Kuwait came up with an agreement to resume the recruitment of domestic workers
