Filipino-American singer Francisco Martin’s journey to become the next “American Idol” sadly ended Sunday night during the live airing of the show’s 18th season finals in the US.Compared to previous years where the last leg of the singing search would air from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, host Ryan Seacrest announced the winner from home, with all the contestants and celebrity judges also connected via video conferencing from theirs.
“Francisco, I’m so proud you made Top 5. I just enjoyed watching your confidence, man. Thank you for working so hard these past few months,” Bryan said. In the second round, the pre-law college student performed his audition piece “Alaska” by Maggie Rogers, which the judges said back then made him the strong contender that he truly became this season.
Bryan, for his part, said, “Man, I’m so proud to see you here. I’m so heartbroken that this is the last time we’ll get to hear you perform like this on ‘American Idol.’ I just know the sky is the limit for your career. Thank you so much Francisco.”
