FIFA boss Gianni Infantino has lashed out at European broadcasters tabling low offers for the TV rights of the Women's World Cup calling it a 'slap in the face” to the players and “all women worldwide”.

"Should the offers continue not to be fair we will be forced not to broadcast the FIFA Women's World Cup into the 'big five' European countries," he said at a World Trade Organisation meeting in Geneva. The FIFA boss said European broadcasters had been offered between $1.5 million and $15 million for the rights compared to the $150 million to $300 million offered for the Men’s World Cup,The big five – Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany and France – are tabling offers so low Mr Infantino said it was a “slap in the face” to the players and “all women worldwide”.

“We need to generate this revenues and they should help us because otherwise we will simply not sell these rights at these undervalued prices. This World Cup is the first time FIFA is selling the TV rights to the Men’s and Women’s tournaments separately, with former Matilda and ex-FIFA and AFC executive Moya Dodd claiming it was part of the reason for the lowball offers.
