The 1955 Charlottetown Nomads-Abbies won the Maritime senior A rugby championship, and it featured guys like Spy Ready, Ebbie Devine, Noel Wilson, Dave MacLeod, Dick Carroll, Gord Tweedy, Art Perry and a host of others.Winning a championship back then, when the game was at its apex, was no easy task.
In last week’s championship game at Co-op Field, speedster Isaiah Hood, Liam Carter, Joe Locke, Spencer Messiah, Osian Nicholas and Charlie Waddell scored trys early, and the game was in the bag. It’s guys like Moore and Charlottetown Rural’s Mike Lloyd who have spearheaded rugby’s prominence in P.E.I. It’s great to see their efforts paying off.
Philadelphia and San Francisco had upset defeats, while Buffalo was lucky to hold off the New York Giants on a final-second goal-line stand and a questionable last-play non-interference call.Washington at New York Giants : Washington upset Atlanta but meets an inspired Giants’ club that deserved to beat Buffalo. The Giants need this game and will smother Washington. I have plenty of faith in mobile and experienced Tyrod Taylor. Either he or Dan Jones will lead the Giants to the much-needed win.
Arizona at Seattle : Seattle has a vastly underrated defence against the run and versus the pass with standout cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Geno Smith is a solid QB, so Seattle by at least a TD.
