Funding was halted in May when sexual assault allegations dating back to 2018 came to light and the organization quietly reached a $3.55-million settlement outside of court with the woman who made the accusations. The woman said she was sexually assaulted by eight players – including some on the 2018 world junior team – after a foundation gala in London, Ontario.
The organization also revealed some of the players on the 2003 men’s world junior roster were also being investigated for a group sexual assault in Halifax. Hockey Canada announced Sunday federal funding was flowing again and added the federal Minister of Sport Pascale St-Onge made it official. The organization had to meet three conditions in order to regain the funding. They were required to become a full-signatory to Abuse-Free sport and the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner, to review and implement the recommendations from an independent governance review and had to commit to more frequent reporting to the federal government.Ctrl+Enter
