Mendicino said the cash commitment comes on top of increased border security measures and “deepened co-operation with the United States to fight gun smuggling.” In fact, Bill C-21 faced criticism from hunters and other gun owners for several proposed amendments to the bill defining assault-style rifles that the government later withdrew.
