KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit rebounded to close firmer against the US dollar today, buoyed by a softer greenback amid declines in United States (US) Treasury yields.
PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has reserved its decision on whether judges can order concurrent instead of consecutive caning sentence s for offenders convicted of multiple offences.
He said the Criminal Procedure Code permitted male offenders under the age of 50 to receive a maximum of 24 strokes of the cane, depending on their health condition. "We cannot depart from the approach we have practised the past 30 years,” he said, adding that Santansamy must serve the caning sentence consecutively, which amounts to 20 strokes.
He committed the offences in a house in Taman Sri Rampai, in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 14, 2018. The Court of Appeal dismissed his appeals in July 2022. On Thursday , the court invited the parties to submit on whether the court could order concurrent whipping sentences for Santansamy.
