The Feast of the Jesus Nazareno, traditionally celebrated in Manila, will now be a nationwide event. This follows the declaration of the Quiapo Church as a 'Minor Basilica and National Shrine of the Jesus Nazareno' and the recognition of January 9th as a national liturgical feast.
FROM being limited to the City of Manila, the Feast of the Jesus Nazareno is now officially set to go nationwide. This is according to Quiapo Church Rector Fr. Rufino “Jun” Sescon, who said they expect the entire country to have their respective celebrations of the annual feast of the iconic image of the black Christ.
'Sometime in August or September of year, it was declared by liturgists that January 9 is a liturgical feast for the whole country,' said Sescon. In July 2023, the CBCP gathered for the 126th Plenary Assembly, wherein the prelates approved the petition to declare the Quiapo Church as a 'national shrine.'The Solemn Ceremony for the 'Declaration as a National Shrine,' however, took place in late January 2024.
