The Film Development Council of the Philippines , in collaboration with De La Salle University Manila, unveiled the preliminary findings of a groundbreaking study titled 'Habits and Preferences of Filipino Viewers of Local Film s in Metro Manila.' The research offers a look into the challenges facing Philippine cinema and suggests avenues for revitalizing the industry.
The research revealed that only 21-percent of respondents primarily watch movies in theaters, compared to 67-percent who use streaming services. The preference for foreign films was overwhelming, with 83-percent of participants favoring international titles over local productions.Among the factors influencing film choices, top considerations were actors, plot, and genre, while the high cost of tickets and perceived lack of quality in local films were cited as barriers to cinema-going.
