Chychrun\u0027s father, Jeff, an Ottawa native, and his wife, Nancy, had a hard time hiding their excitement.

Chychrun’s 85-year-old grandfather, John, still makes his home in Bridlewood and Jakob’s sister, Taylor, also lives here. This really is Jakob Chychrun’s second home and the family spends its summers here.

Chychrun told the Coyotes nearly 18 months ago that he’d like to move on and be with a contender. Dorion and Armstrong have kept in constant contact ever since, but could never find the right solution to make a deal. “This really is perfect for him and he’s going to fit in really well with these younger guys because it’s going to be their team,” said Octagon Hockey’s Andy Scott, Chychrun’s Ottawa-based agent. “It’s really good because people think he’s an older veteran who’s 28 years old. He’s not. He’s only 24 and that’s the age of most of their players.Article content

It took us a while to get the ask right and to get into the market. “Jakob was a first-class act,” Armstrong said. “He had expressed his interest to move on to a club that was a contender. We were trying to do that in this trade and we have immense respect for the player and his wishes.
