PETALING JAYA: Some families are adopting a lifestyle change to help their overweight children overcome bad eating habits.

“I decided my family had to have a lifestyle change last year when I noticed that my nine-year-old son was often out of breath when doing basic physical activities.“He was 44kg at just nine years old, so I thought I had to do something, and I started controlling his food intake,” she said.“Instead of eating rice three times a day, I reduced it to only twice a day.

A mother of four who wanted to be known only as Liz said she noticed her eldest daughter started gaining more weight when she turned 12. Liz said it was initially difficult to persuade her daughter to change her eating habits, but she persisted to ensure that her daughter grows up healthy.“At first, she was reluctant but over time, I noticed that these walks helped improved our mother-daughter bond and she was getting more fit,” she said.
