An Oakville man has been charged with fraud following an alleged bid to lure business owners into purchasing fake advertising.
Toronto Police issued a news release on Monday about the alleged scheme that was in operation for more than a decade between April 2011 and May 31.According to police, a person solicited funds from an entity called the “Ontario Police Public Safety News.” Cops said the person contacted businesses to sell advertisements for a magazine he claimed was widely distributed throughout Ontario.The magazine was not widely distributed and the community programs didn’t exist, police said.
