Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that he will meet with all social media platform providers in Malaysia at the end of this month. The meeting
is meant to address the management of cyberbullying issues in our country.
According to Bernama, Fahmi stressed that the meeting is necessary as his Ministry is unhappy with the commitment shown by platform providers in handling complaints related to cyberbullying. The Communications Minister gave an example of the “very disappointing” management of cyberbullying on platforms such as TikTok, saying that it seemed to be taken lightly.
He further revealed that the meeting will also be attended by MCMC, the Attorney General’s Chambers, and other stakeholders to review and scrutinise this matter based on the complaints received. Accordingly, the Government wants comprehensive changes and for platform providers to be more responsible and to take action according to Malaysian laws.
Besides that, the Communications Minister also said that the cyberbullying issue will be presented to the Cabinet this Friday to find the best solution. These include legal and enforcement aspects.
