Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil reveals that Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, and Telegram are the most popular platforms for scammers to operate in Malaysia, with estimated losses from Facebook alone reaching RM500 million in 2023. He emphasizes that these platforms' popularity makes them attractive targets for criminals, as many users are vulnerable to scams. Minister Fahmi announces a large-scale online fraud awareness campaign, starting in schools, to educate parents and students about safe social media usage and prevention strategies. He also highlights other measures taken to combat scam crimes, including licensing social media platforms, stricter regulations, and an updated definition of scam crimes under the Communications and Multimedia Act.
