Officials in Geraldton decided to bring down the $880,000 build after rain and high tides this week left it at risk of falling into the ocean.
The Geraldton Marine Rescue building has been demolished, eight years after the State Government funded it to be redeveloped. The marine rescue team have relocated to a multi-purpose building and DFES will build a two-bay shed to store extra equipment.
But after 120 millimetres of rain and high tides in the region this week, the waterfront eroded to about two metres from the structure. Dr Payne said this year's weather had been unusual for the area and was decreasing pressure in the atmosphere. Ms Chiera said the demolition of the marine rescue building left the community feeling worried about the future of their homes."I don't know quite where we'll go with that or what will happen, we just hope that maybe it will accrete again like it did round at Greys Beach. The Geraldton Marine Rescue team has relocated to the City of Greater Geraldton's multi-purpose centre and can also operate from home.
