JOHOR BARU: The appointment of 28 people to a panel of experts (POE) under the Local Government Development Ministry is to ensure government policies that are holistic, says Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

He said those involved have expertise and experience beneficial to the ministry especially in dealing with issues.

“For example, when we talk about housing development, it will also involve waste management, which is why we need the experts to get their views on how we handle things,” he told reporters after a Back to School Aid Programme at Dewan Flat Larkin here on Sunday .The Johor Baru MP had been asked to comment on whether or not the number of appointees was excessive.

“In terms of commitment, they are not paid, and the ministry only wants their views on matters that impact the public,” he said, adding that the panel's input would add value to the government's initiatives.
