Health care is the focus for P.E.I.’s Liberals heading into the 2023 provincial election, as the party outlines its plan to address the Island’s growing medical crisis.
Sharon Cameron, leader of the P.E.I Liberal Party, says access to P.E.I.'s health care system is at a crisis point, something her party hopes to address through expanding virtual and in-person physician access, and more efforts to retain students entering medicine, if elected.CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Health care is the focus for P.E.I.’s Liberal party heading into the 2023 provincial election, as the party outlines its plan to address the Island’s growing medical crisis.
“They wanted to live here because they could reasonably expect a good job, they could get a place to live and they had access to health care, education and all those things that make a place attractive.” Cameron said, if elected, the party would double scholarships and financial incentives to make returning to Island attractive for P.E.I. students studying medicine in other provinces.
“I’d go back to 2007, to when the Ghiz government came in. They took a whole year to completely assess the system and set out a plan,” she said. Expanded virtual care, increased walk-in clinic volume and new financial incentives to attract Island students studying medicine outside of P.E.I. to return and work were among the promises announced by Liberal leader Sharon Cameron on March 8.
