Ireland could see temperatures of up to 32C in the coming days as a ‘mini-heatwave’ takes hold.
Some long-range weather models - which are subject to change - show the mercury hitting the low 30s in some areas of Ireland on Tuesday.
It has also not ruled out the possibility of a weather warning being issued, with a forecaster saying: “There is a chance that there could be some very warm or hot conditions and a combination of high day and night time temperatures could lead to a high temperature warning over next weekend and the early days of next week.”
The UK Met Office has issued an ‘amber’ extreme heat warning covering much of England and Wales from Sunday into Tuesday.Ireland’s weather has not yet been declared a heatwave, as Met Eireann’s definition of one is five consecutive days of temperatures above 25C.A post on the Met Eireann website reads: "Cloudiest this afternoon across Ulster and Connacht with scattered showers and occasional bright spells. Longer sunny spells across Leinster and Munster mixed with some cloud.
"Highest temperatures of 15C to 21C or 22C, warmest in the south, in a light to moderate west to northwest wind.
