Amir Ali is accused of appointing his daughter as a financial officer in the company owned by the Melaka government.

PETALING JAYA: Amir Ali, the former CEO of Melaka Halal Hub Sdn Bhd, was charged in the Ayer Keroh sessions court today with abusing his position to appoint his daughter as a financial officer at the company owned by the Melaka government in 2021.

Amir Ali, 56, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before judge Elesabet Paya Wan, Berita Harian reported. He is accused of using his position to appoint his daughter, Nur Hafizah, to the position of W41 finance officer in the company.Amir Ali was charged under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and can be punished in accordance with Section 24 of the same Act.

However, lawyer Azrul Zulkifli Stork appealed for bail of RM3,000 on the grounds that Amir Ali is now working as a cultural officer at a local university with an income of RM6,000 a month and has to support his wife, who is a diabetic, and nine children.The case is set for mention for the submission of documents on Nov 2.
