Iloilo City — A former governor of Iloilo province and former mayor of Iloilo City died a day apart.
Former Iloilo governor Simplicio “Sim” Griño died Monday while former mayor Mansueto “Mansing” Malabor died Sunday .
Griño, died at the age of 85, first-served as acting provincial vice governor of Iloilo during the aftermath of the February 1986 People Power revolution. In 1987, President Cory Aquino appointed him as acting provincial governor. By 1988, he was elected as provincial governor and served until 1992.He served as mayor of Iloilo City for three consecutive terms from 1992 until 2001.The deaths of Griño and Malabor were overshadowed by the August 3 sea tragedy, wherein at least 30 people died after three passenger boats capsized along the Iloilo Strait.
