Just three of Australia’s 227 federal MPs have chosen fully electric vehicles as their taxpayer-funded cars.
The electric vehicle revolution appears to have passed Australia’s federal politicians by, with only a small proportion choosing EVs as their taxpayer-funded private-plated vehicle .
However, there were still some green shoots among other vehicle choices. At least two politicians chose hybrid vehicles, both Toyota Priuses. Thirty-four vehicles were listed as “other – non-standard/not on current list”, but there was no information as to whether any of those were EVs.The most popular selection for politicians was the Toyota LandCruiser Prado , a large four-wheel-drive that would be well-suited for large rural electorates, followed by the Mazda CX-9 , a six- or seven-seater SUV.Forty-six politicians chose to have an additional electorate allowance in lieu of a vehicle.
