Crucial trade negotiations with Europe have hit a snag as the EU’s existing offer “falls well short” of Australia’s expectations.

Trade Minister Don Farrell has been in Brussels negotiating with key representatives from the European Union this week.Agriculture Minister Murray Watt said the deal on the table “falls well short” of an acceptable offer, arguing the government only wanted “reasonable” access to the massive market for producers.

Picture: David Gray/Getty Images The Trade Minister told Sky News Australia on Tuesday the government was prepared to “walk away” from the deal if reasonable compromises were not made.“We think that we can get some good market access that makes a big difference for Australian producers but it would still be a relatively small fraction of the whole EU market,” he said.
