Esquimalt is considering joining the list of municipalities that are lowering speed limits, and is conducting a survey on the plan.
Studies have shown that in the event that a pedestrian is hit by a driver of a vehicle, the chances of the person surviving increase as speeds lower.
Edmonton has been working on a “Vision Zero” plan, which is the term used for places working to achieve zero traffic fatalities, and says since 2015 has seen a 50 per cent reduction in traffic-related fatalities.
