“Without the recovery, I wouldn’t have been able to write. Recovery from substance abuse has helped me to change my life path,” she said.“I relocated in the summer of ‘98 because I wanted a change and wanted to work and I figured Maine might be a good place,” she said.“My major addiction began in 2006 with pills. I was addicted to prescription pain medication and in denial about it for years. I was in an abusive relationship,” she said.

A turning point occurred during a stay in jail when she realized that her life needed to change and realized the underlying problem. “I was in Eskasoni in December … I have all my family living in Easkasoni and I have relatives in Whycocomagh and relatives in Chapel Island,” she said.
