The fledgling Arnhem Space Centre in the remote Northern Territory is looking to substantially expand its facilities and launch capacity if it's given the tick of approval.

"The ASC is intended to be the pre-eminent multi-user, commercial space launch site in the southern hemisphere, providing world-class equatorial spaceport services," the application reads. If approved, the expansion would be sprawled across "partially rehabilitated land" previously mined by the Gulkula Mining Company, a corporate arm of the Gumatj traditional owners of Arnhem Land.South Korean company to start launching satellites
"I have said very clearly to the NLC and ELA that any expansions and new activities requires permission from the many clan groups of the Gove Peninsula," Mr Guyula said. "The NLC will review and negotiate the details of what is proposed and perform its statutory functions of identifying and consulting the traditional owners and affected groups of the proposal," an NLC spokeswoman said.
