Environment Canada issues special weather statement for TerraceBC, surrounding areas
for Terrace and surrounding areas, warning of unseasonably hot weather beginning Friday and lasting through Tuesday.
Daytime highs are expected to reach into the high 20s to low 30s, with overnight lows in the low to mid-teens. These temperatures are significantly above seasonal norms, with daytime highs 10 to 15 degrees Celsius above average and overnight lows 5 to 10 degrees above typical values. The South Coast and inland areas of the north and central B.C. coast will also experience similar unseasonably hot weather. The highest temperatures are anticipated on Sunday and Monday. Freezing levels will rise throughout the event, potentially causing increased snowpack melting and local flooding due to high stream flow levels.
Residents are urged to be cautious as the risk of heat-related illnesses will increase with the elevated temperatures. While the upcoming heat may result in daily temperature records being broken, Environment Canada emphasizes that the conditions will not approach the extreme heat experienced during the heat dome of late June 2021.
