Four of the largest police unions in the country are calling for systemic change following the killings of five on-duty officers in just four months.
on Dec. 27, has been described by the OPP as an “ambush.” The 28-year-old rookie officer was shot and killed while responding to a report of a vehicle in a ditch near Hagersville, Ont.
Reid said the unions need to look at how these incidents happened and what can be done so more officers don’t lose their lives or face serious injuries on the job. Following Pierzchala’s death, OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique expressed outrage that suspect Randall McKenzie was out on bail despite being charged with several violent offences in late 2021.
