CONTRIBUTED/PATSY CROWDIS - Patsy CrowdisLITTLE LORRAINE, N.S. — Patsy Crowdis of Main-à-Dieu heard rumours of a giant sea turtle washed up on the shore of Wild Cove near Little Lorraine.

"It was absolutely huge," said Crowdis."I looked it up when I got home and it is a leatherback, which is endangered." As reported in the Cape Breton Post, in 2018 there was a deceased leatherback turtle found frozen in the ice at Bras d'Or Lake. In 2016, another leatherback turtle was found deceased on the shore in New Victoria.

According to seaturtles.org,"Cold stunning may lead to shock, pneumonia, frostbite, and potentially death, as they are not able to migrate to warmer waters."
